Silk Pyjamas, Silk Bedding and Satin Sleepwear

We sell two things, and we keep them clearly apart.

Real mulberry silk. Pillowcases at 22 momme in eleven colours, a flat sheet in two UK sizes, pyjama sets for men and women, dressing gowns, boxer shorts, an eye mask, a hair bonnet and baby mittens. Momme is how silk is weighed, and every silk page on this site states the weight rather than leaving you to guess.

Satin. Pillowcases, bedding sets and sleepwear at a fraction of the price. Satin is a weave, not a fibre, so satin is not silk: ours is polyester or viscose depending on the piece, and each page says which. The range has carried the name "satin silk" for years and we have kept the names so the products stay findable, with the specification on the page telling you what you are actually buying.

If a product page cannot tell you something, it says so. Several lines came to us without a published fibre content or size chart, and on those pages we write that down and offer to find out, rather than printing a plausible number.

Which one should you buy?

Buy silk if you sleep warm, if your hair or skin catches on cotton, or if you want something that will still be in the drawer in ten years. Silk moves moisture instead of holding it against you, and it sits close to your own temperature rather than trapping heat, which is why the same set works in July and January.

Buy satin if you want the smooth surface and the sheen and the price matters more than the fibre. It washes well, holds its colour and needs almost no ironing. The trade-off is heat: polyester traps warmth in a way a natural fibre does not.

What we will not tell you is that either one treats anything. Silk is smoother than cotton, so it catches less. That is a real and modest difference, and it is as far as the evidence goes. We make no anti-ageing, medical or hypoallergenic claims for anything on this site, and anyone with a diagnosed silk allergy should avoid the silk range.

Looking after it

Cold gentle wash with a silk detergent, or dry clean. No bleach, no tumble drying, and dry it out of direct sunlight. A cool iron on the reverse if it needs pressing. Heat, bleach and sun are what age silk, in that order, and none of them is the washing machine on its own.

Satin is more forgiving. Cool wash, low heat, and keep the iron cool because a hot one marks it permanently. Every product page carries the care line for that specific item.

Delivered across the UK

Free delivery on orders of £75 or more, and a flat £25 below that. Allow 5 to 7 days once your order is on its way, after 24 to 48 hours of handling. You get a tracking link by email as soon as it is collected.

We ship to addresses across the UK, including Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome, Amsterdam, Vienna, Brussels, Stockholm, Prague, Warsaw, Lisbon, Budapest, Copenhagen, Athens, Helsinki, Oslo, Barcelona, Munich, Milan and Dublin.

You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind under EU consumer law, with the item unused and in resaleable condition. Personalised and embroidered pieces are excluded, and for hygiene reasons underwear and footwear need to come back unworn. If something is faulty, that is a separate matter with no 14 day limit on it.

Frequently asked questions

Is everything on this site real silk?

No, and that is the most important thing to know before you order. The mulberry silk range is 100% silk. The satin range is a weave, usually polyester, at a much lower price. Every product page states which it is in the specification.

What is the difference between silk and satin?

Silk is a natural fibre spun by silkworms. Satin describes how a fabric is woven, so satin can be made from almost anything and usually is polyester. Both feel smooth. Silk breathes better, handles moisture better and lasts longer.

What is momme?

The weight measure for silk. Our pillowcases are 22 momme, the silk boxer shorts and dressing gown are 19, and the men's silk pyjama set is 16. Heavier is not automatically better: a full pyjama set at 22 momme would feel heavy in bed.

What does grade 6A mean?

A supplier grading for the length and consistency of the raw silk filament, with 6A at the top of the usual scale. It describes the yarn rather than certifying anything independently, so read it as a supplier's description and not as a certificate.

Is your silk certified?

We hold no OEKO-TEX or equivalent certification, so we do not claim one. Our suppliers grade the raw silk as 6A, and that is what we can stand behind.

Does silk help with wrinkles or ageing?

No, and we have taken that claim off this site. Silk is smoother than cotton so it catches skin and hair less, which is a real and modest difference. It does not slow ageing and we will not say that it does.

Is silk hypoallergenic?

We make no such claim. Silk is a natural protein fibre and many people with easily irritated skin prefer it, which is a preference rather than a tested claim. Anyone with a diagnosed silk allergy should avoid it.

Is silk good if I sleep hot?

It is the best fabric we sell for that. Silk moves moisture rather than holding it, and sits near your own temperature instead of trapping heat. That is the difference people notice at three in the morning. The satin range does the opposite.

Can I machine wash silk?

Yes, cold on a gentle cycle with a silk detergent, ideally in a mesh bag. You can dry clean it instead. Never bleach it, never wash it hot and do not tumble dry it.

Will silk shrink or fade?

Not if you wash it cold. Fading comes from sunlight far more than from washing, so dry it in the shade. Give any deep colour, particularly red or black, its own first wash.

How long will it last?

Years with cold washing and shade drying. What shortens the life of silk is hot water, bleach and a hot dryer, in that order.

Does silk snag?

It can. A ring, a watch strap or a rough nail will pull a thread on any smooth woven fabric, silk included. Worth knowing rather than a reason to avoid it.

What sizes do you sell?

It varies by line and each page states its own range. Several listings sell a single size, and where the supplier's measurements are not published we say so on the page rather than estimating. Ask us before ordering and we will measure the piece we would send.

Do you publish size charts?

Where we have them. The men's satin bathrobe and the men's winter pyjama set both carry real measurements taken from the supplier's own chart. Others do not have one, and those pages say so.

Do you sell children's sizes?

No. The only item for children is the newborn silk baby mittens.

Can I have something embroidered?

Yes. Embroidery and monogramming is a separate item on this site at £11 per piece, added to the same order. It is machine embroidery, and personalised items are excluded from change-of-mind returns.

How much is delivery?

Free on orders of £75 or more. Below that it is a flat £25.

How long does delivery take?

Allow 5 to 7 days across the UK once your order is on its way, after 24 to 48 hours of handling.

Where do you ship to?

Addresses across the UK. There is no shop to visit, which is where a good part of the price difference comes from.

Might my order arrive in more than one parcel?

Yes. A few lines ship from a different supplier to the rest of the range, and those product pages say so. If a parcel arrives without one item, it is on its way rather than missing.

What payment methods do you take?

Card through Stripe, or PayPal. Both are processed securely and we never see or store your card details.

Can I return something?

Yes, 14 days from delivery to change your mind under EU consumer law, unused and in resaleable condition. Personalised items are excluded, and underwear and footwear need to be unworn with packaging intact.

What if something arrives faulty?

Tell us and we will replace or refund it. A fault is separate from the change-of-mind right and is not limited to 14 days.

Is anything made to order?

No. Everything we sell is a standard stock item, which is why the full 14 day right applies across the range. Embroidery is the one exception, because a personalised piece cannot be resold.

Do you sell to hotels, spas or shops?

Yes. There is a wholesale page with what we can and cannot commit to, and it is worth contacting us directly with quantities.

Do you offer gift wrapping?

Most of the range ships in standard packaging. The women's silk dressing gown arrives in a gift box and the silk boxer shorts come with a silk pouch, and those pages say so.

Are the photographs accurate?

Close. Deep colours read darker in low light than they do on a bright screen, and white shows the sheen of silk more clearly than any other colour. Where a colour name and the photograph disagree, the product page says which is right.

Why is the satin range called satin silk?

Because that is the name it has carried for years and people search for it. We kept the names and put the truth in the specification, rather than renaming everything and losing the products.

Do you have a shop I can visit?

No, we sell online only across the UK.

How do I get in touch?

Email theteam@silkpyjamas.uk or use the contact page. A real person reads it and replies, usually within one working day.
